Let’s work
What are my guiding principles as a teacher?
Everyone is different, and I may not be the teacher for you - that’s ok! To help you decide if we could be a good fit, take a look at some of the guiding principles I follow.
The classroom is a safe space
As a language learner myself, I know how important it is to feel comfortable when experimenting with new language. I strive to make my classroom a safe space for everyone. Nobody likes making mistakes, but they’re a sign of growth and are an important part of your language learning journey. I make it a top priority to make sure you feel at ease in class.
Individualised lessons are key
Everyone’s learning needs are different. What works for one student, might not work for another. I take time to discover your individual needs and will work with you to focus on topics and areas that keep you engaged and motivated.
Pronunciation is a priority
If you don’t know how a word is pronounced, are you likely to use it in conversation? Probably not! And that’s just one of the reasons why I focus so heavily on pronunciation in all of my classes.
It’s up to you
I am an expert in the English language and am here to guide you. I can explain grammar rules and vocabulary. I can create fun activities to practise fluency. I can correct your mistakes and explain exactly how a word is pronounced. But, ultimately, how quickly you progress is up to you and the effort you put in, both inside and outside the classroom. I promise to support you every step of the way, but it’s essential that you commit your time and energy to the process too!
It’s all about the process
Having a clear, well-defined and achievable goal is great. It can help increase motivation and give you that extra push to keep going on those more difficult days. But, I’m here to help you make sure you enjoy the process without losing sight of the goal. What does that mean in practice? In my classes I always leave time and space for humour, play, self-reflection, personalisation and review.
